ReactOS LiveUSB

Post by reactosuser7 » Sat Oct 08, 2016 6:00 am

One way of making a ReactOS LiveUSB is using dd command in a GNU/Linux system:
dd if=/home/User/Downloads/ReactOS-0.4.3-live.iso of=/dev/sdb
sdb: USB stick.

And 256 MegaBytes old USB stick (perfect for 210 MB ReactOS live iso) is a way of reusing instead of
trashing it
And 64 MB and older USB sticks is a way of using with FreeDOS instaled in it, with Rufus
http://rufus.akeo.ie/

According it says
(2) Non exhaustive list of ISOs Rufus is known to work with: [...] ...ReactOS,...

In the world today it is necesary to have LiveUSB, cause CDs are starting to disappear or they are not so comon as before.
Maybe in some years ReactOS LiveUSB will be full working without problems.

And in PC / Notebooks without BIOS USB support there is Plop Boot Manager

Rufus is certainly the easy way to prep a USB drive to boot ReactOS - except the USB drivers aren't very good yet. We'll get there, and we all agree that USB booting is important, but don't expect it to be reliable yet. (But if you try it, and if it works, that would be an Epic Win! Make sure to post any such success in the Epic Win thread.)

but it don`t boot.
It says:

Code: Select all

ISOMBR: Read Error!
_
With the "_ "tilling.

Writting Vgal ReactOS Live iso to USB with dd comand: dd if=/home/user/liveusb-ReactOS-0.4.7-RC1-vgal.iso of=/dev/sdb does not work too.
The same boot error: ISOMBR: Read Error!

Making vgal reactos-0-4-7-rc1-new-usb LiveUSB with Rufus, it does not work too.

Boot loading with LiveCD (Debug) option, process hangs or freezes until loading 'SWENUM.SYS' .
(Booting process freezes at ' \reactos\System32\Drivers\SWENUM.SYS' ).

And when booting with LiveCD (Screen) it freezes when 'Loading boot drivers' , so there is no usable debugging info showing by screen.

I don´t have Null-modem and serial cables, so
is there are a way to test ReactOS LiveUSB (with Rufus) in virtualization?

Anyone can post how to test LiveUSBs and have debugging info in VirtualBox, QEMU, ...?
In VirtualBox as I can see USBs are mounted on an installed OS.

Trying about 10 times, it works!!! :D :D

It show ReactOS 'LiveCD' as an USB stick, and it is posible to create directories and save screenshots on the USB stick! :o

Here there are the screenshots:

CORE-14136

(I did not have any other public place to upload them
If only in this forum made it posible to upload images, not linking them).

An image for you.

Upload your images to the correct location, an image-sharing service. Display them here. Do NOT upload bitmaps as they cause problems, use JPEGs only.

or PNGs.
Also, what problems are you referring to that bitmaps cause?

Bitmaps can cause a problem using some of the image sharing sites. The result will be a lot of white space.

Interesting. I hadn't seen this, or heard of it before. Thanks for that tidbit. I've generally used PNG files myself, as I prefer to use lossless compression and often have need for transparency in my images.

Anyway, the point stands. The correct method posting pictures/screenshots to this forum is to upload them to a separate image hosting site, then paste the URL of the image on said site inside an [img] bbtag.

(what I have tested):
:!: Update

New vgal RC liveusb-ReactOS-0.4.7-RC3-vgal.iso build
http://vgal.ru.com/reactos-0-4-7-rc3-new-usb/

Works fine (for me) in ' ReactOS (Debug) ' option only.
But at least it works every time I boot the LiveUSB. :D

In the other boot options it freezes when loading boot drivers.

And as I can see (for now) it saves things from previous live booting like:
* Lautus theme loading by default,
* the last program executed in the execute search in main menu.
* and the last (previous live boot) shutdown option.

And in the USB stick there is a 'RECYCLED' folder.

And when selection to format drive C ,the USB stick, (as FAT, FAT32, EXT2, and BtrFS), but I don`t test it yet.

The still problem is that boot loading is too slow.
And the system in general is a bit slow.

We wish that in ReactOS 0.4.9 or 0.4.10 LiveUSB will be full working, or at least like Vgal LiveUSB RC3 or +.
