Real Sound on Real Hardware

Post by reactosfan »

Sorry, but is there anybody out there who can perform real sound on real hardware? I briefly think of a soundcard and VLC media player 1.02 or 1.03 to play videos and audio files for Christmas (Xvid and mp3). Looking at this list ( http://www.reactos.org/wiki/Supported_H ... ound_cards ) I am quite unsure of what the term "works" does mean? If somebody has experience in this subject and truly can play sound via loudspeakers please let me know which soundcard does this wonder makes happen? Please write down the exact code for it (name, reversion number and so on). I want to order the same one for my ROS designed pc. :D

A picture is worth a thousand words, if it's a video, many more ;) .
You'll see there the model, anyway, I think you stay on the safe side if you pick a Creative SoundBlaster PCI 128 (specially the model ct4810).

The video is by me :D

Pay attention anyway, I've tried two different CT4810 models and one worked, the other didn't. :(

Is there a special brand or revision number? Normally there must be a difference to explain this behaviour?

I have tested several audio cards, there's nothing at the moment that can assure you a specific one will work, as sometimes a card that works doesn't some revisions later, anyway there have been a lot of improvements in the audio stack since that video was made, so have no fear, that model works or will work for sure in the near future. Audio support is still being heavily worked on.

Now, I experience once again this ebay fraud system! Never ever buy something via ebay any more exceeding EUR 10, including shipping! I did order a creative CT4810 and get next week a CT5003! The dealer is soooo sorry about this unusual circumstances and is absolute 100% HIV stars positive, 3500 trades!?! Does I have similar chances using that card (ES1371)? Maybe the driver here ( http://www.4shared.com/dir/12652083/3e2 ... aring.html ) could work using build 44444?

Do you mean a CT5803 ? I couldn't find a CT5003, if it's physically similar the driver could work, you'll need to test...

I still have got a photo of the 2 different CT4810. The one on the right WORKS on ReactOS (it's the same I was using in the video on Youtube), the left one doesn't.

Half an hour ago the CT5803 - its really a 5 8 03 (A166416 Audio PC AssyNo 09 Rev A) not 5303 - dropped in. I freshly installed build 44451 using the test audio driver given here:

http://www.reactos.org/wiki/Supported_H ... ound_cards

It installed properly using the drivers on the audio test page but no sound using vlc 1.03 mp3 ( vlc shuts down) or Xvid video which runs properly lacking sound. On this picture it is No. 8:

http://www.wcn.it/Audio.reactos.jpg

I will ask now the dealer and friends for the real CT4810. The right one on the picture given here:

http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/9887/p1000591.jpg

@ Ey3 - it would be very helpful if the right card have a defined Rev number to exclude others by ordering!

Don't use VLC to test audio! Use this one http://www.4shared.com/file/107415980/5 ... p4ROS.html and open an MP3

I have no longer the working one sound card, I have only the left-one that doesn't work on ROS :( Anyway if you need the revision number you can read it from the photo I posted!

PS: the working one has more capacitors and one more chip as you can see...
